Discover Italy and France through Art

Discover Italy and France through Art is the title for the new show opening this evening at Central Oregon Community College Rotunda Gallery, Bend, Oregon.  Candice Simpson will share her Italian experience as a COCC study Abroad student  through her photographs.  I will be showing my French and Italian watercolor paintings.  I will also have on display some of my watercolor travel journals.  The Rotunda Gallery is located on the campus in the Barber Library.  The show will end February 27, 2013.

Announcing Artful Gathering, Online Art Retreats

Announcing Artful Gathering, Online Art Retreats

I am excited to tell you that I have joined ARTFUL GATHERING, a very talented group of artists teaching online video workshops.  I will be teaching my absolutely favorite subject: COLOR!  This has been an exciting challenge for me and it all started with my encouraging students at CREATE, IRVINE 2012 class.  They suggested I offer my classes online as they loved all the information that I presented in my one day classes and wanted more.
Easy, I thought!  First I had to invest in a better video camera.  Then I quickly realized that I needed a better editing program.  Now I am busy teaching myself how it all works and how to put it all together.  Zinnia, founder and director of Artful Gatherings, has been very helpful and encouraging.

If you are interested in taking my class, The Good, the Bad and the Beauty of Color, using color to create beautiful watercolor paintings, you can now pre-register.  Official Registration opens in March when the workshop catalog and class schedule will be released. Be sure to fill out the pre-registration form so we can keep you updated.

For those of you who are lucky enough to have the Nov/Dec 2008 issue of Cloth, Paper Scissors,  check out the fabulous article written by Sue Pettetier on making Sparkling Snowmen.  She gives great instructions on how to make these adorable little snowmen using vintage bottles.  Or even better – I just found out that she has just made this fun project available online!

Last night with my daughters, friends and a little bit of wine, we created a whole family of vintage bottle snowmen.

Lots of fun, lots of glitter and laughter!
Where did my wine go?
Even my husband came in to see what we were doing.  He did not quite “get it” that we were making snowmen so he make a Santa head and put it on his version of a snowman’s body which was a bottle filled with watered down wine.  Honestly! MEN!

The box is packed and ready to ship.  Sample postcards are carefully wrapped and example art supplies are in their separate zip-locked baggie.  I even put in some Hershey’s kisses for the editors.  My article, Painted Postcards is ready to go and will be published in the Cloth, Paper Scissors magazine – March/April 2013 issue.  It took longer than expected to create all the samples required for the article but it was so much fun to do.  I hope you will read the article when it is published next year!
