Coloring Books Meet Mixed Media

Coloring Books Meet Mixed Media

The new Cloth, Paper Scissor’s Coloring Book,  Coloring Book Sketchbook, offers more than other coloring books.  Not only does it offer various mixed media art techniques, but it is a collection of sketches from many different artists, including one of my sketches of an old Italian door.  In her blog post, Jeannine Stein, shows how she uses mixed media to color my sketch of the door.
It was an honor to be asked to contribute sketches for the book and an honor to have Jeannine use mine sketch as a demo!

Here photos of how Jeannine Stein colored my door sketch:

New Article for Cloth, Paper, Scissors – Pages Magazine

I’m excited to tell you that I am just about finished with an article I wrote for the Summer 2014 Issue of Pages.  I am putting the finishing touches on some journal paintings that I had started.  This is so fun for me because it is like visiting old friends.   I am getting them ready to send off to Interweave Studios in Boston to be photo graphed so I want them to look their best!  This particular article that I have been working on is about my favorite water-soluble pen.  I will tell you about the other articles I have been working on in a following post.

Welcome to my Studio!

Welcome to my Studio!

My art studio is featured in the new issue of the Cloth-Paper-Scissors Studios Summer edition magazine.  The editor, Linda Blinn is celebration the arrival of summer with this issue and asked me to write an article about my studio in Bend and how I travel with my journals and paints to  Mt. Desert Island, Maine with my traveling studio.  Here is a peek at the article:

The box is packed and ready to ship.  Sample postcards are carefully wrapped and example art supplies are in their separate zip-locked baggie.  I even put in some Hershey’s kisses for the editors.  My article, Painted Postcards is ready to go and will be published in the Cloth, Paper Scissors magazine – March/April 2013 issue.  It took longer than expected to create all the samples required for the article but it was so much fun to do.  I hope you will read the article when it is published next year!

Art Journaling Exposed Weekend Blog Hop!

Art Journaling Exposed Weekend Blog Hop!

As I write this from a 175,000 acre estancia (a very large ranch) at the southern tip of  Patagonia, Argentina, I am happy to announce a very fun new idea in Art Journaling!  The creative artists at Cloth, Paper, Scissors have produced a new eMag.  We are celebrating the launch of Art Journaling Exposed this weekend by following the blogs of its contributors and featured artists!  As I am traveling with a group of hikers (as in – non-painters/non-artists) and have very little time to play with my art journal, I have to practice what I teach and have been using my water-soluble flair pen technique for creating paintings-on-the-go.  I demo this technique on page 15 of Art Journaling Exposed.  My part for this new eMag was filmed when I was in Colorado filming for a DVD, Art Journals on the Go, due to be out soon.
This easy to down load, eMag is full of wonderful ideas and artists.  It only cost $4.99 and is a quick download and yours to have on your computer forever.  Why don’t you join us in this Art Journaling Exposed Weekend Blog Hop and check out all of these fabulous artists!  Also, I would love to hear from you if you would like to leave a comment!
Here is the list in alphabetical order:
Julie Fei-Fan Balzer
Traci Bautista
Jane Davenport

Early reviews for Art Journaling Exposed have been phenomenal, and one reader wrote to us saying, “This was amazing!!!!! I have NEVER enjoyed a magazine like I enjoyed this one. Just do more! Don’t stop with this one! PLEASE!!!!!”

Watercolor Journeys for the Traveling Artist, a new DVD

Watercolor Journeys for the Traveling Artist, a new DVD

I haven’t been able to post much lately because my computer was sent away to get a new mother board.  After many weeks it was finally declared a Lemon!  I now have a new computer and find it does work a lot better than my last computer.

Despite my recent computer problems, I have been getting ready for my trip to Loveland, CO to film my new DVD with Interweave Press.  The title will be something like, Watercolor Journeys for the Traveling Artist and I will be demonstrating some great ideas for watercolor painting while traveling.  Here is a painting I did in my watercolor journal this past May while with the group that I took to Provence, France.  We painted on a book page from a French book.

I will let you know when my DVD is available for purchase!
