Journaling Class in Sunriver, Oregon

Journaling Class in Sunriver, Oregon

We had a wonderful snowy day painting in our journals and learning about creating paintings-on-the-go for the traveling artist.  My students felt like we had a very successful day!  If that was not enough, we ended by having an incredible potluck lunch with our gracious host, Liz.  You know what happens when women get together to eat – fabulously healthy food and charming company.  Here are some photos of the work that we did:

Interweave Press and Cloth Paper Scissors are offering a free download of their ebook on art journaling.

Art journaling is a way to express yourself through writing and art at the same time.
This creative process pulls together a variety of materials to create mixed-media art.

You can buy pre-made journals and fill them with your doodles and designs or craft
your own custom journals to record everything from your travels to your art technique
experiments to your innermost thoughts.
In short, an art journal is whatever you want it to be. But you have to start someplace,
so we’ve created this free eBook,
Art Journal Techniques: How to Make a Travel Journal, a Handmade Journal, plus
Art Journaling Ideas.

In this free eBook you’ll get art journaling tips, including how to make a travel journal
from maps, how to make an art journal in stages, and how to choose the right

Be My Valentine, the Making a Valentine Card

Be My Valentine, the Making a Valentine Card

Mixed Media Valentine Card for my Husband

Using my Flip, Flaps & Fold-outs ideas that I will be teaching at the CREATE in Irvine, CA I created this Valentine card for my husband.  I used a shipping label from the office supply store, gesso, watercolor paints, gold gesso, ribbon and some stamps.  I hope he likes this better than a store bought valentine.  Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone!

I just finished teaching my Watercolor Toolbox class and we ended the class by painting a birdhouse on a stucco wall.  We mixed the 3 primary colors to get a colorful background and played with adding salt to make the texture on the wall.  We glazed to get darks in the shadows of the bird house and put some reflected color in the shadows.  We also learned about lifting highlights by using a plastic template.  Everyone was a pleasure to have in class!

I had a wonderfully fun time filming with Interweave Press in Loveland, CO,  my new DVD, Watercolor Journeys for the Traveling Artist, or something like that as the title has yet to be determined.  Just wanted to share a few photos from our shoot:

Cascade View, Original Watercolor

Cascade View, Original Watercolor

I am lucky enough to live in the Central Oregon Cascade Mountain Range.  The mountains change with the seasons – the colors change, the snow recedes and then returns.  This painting is just as the sun is starting to set on the green foothills with South Sister Mountain in the background.

Remembering Provence, Corner Cafe

Remembering Provence, Corner Cafe

I just finished this watercolor painting, Corner Cafe.  The cafe is located just outside the ancient walls of the old part of the town of St. Remy de Provence, France.  The first rays of sun shines here in the morning and was a beautiful place to greet the day with our steaming cups of cafe au lait.
